Privacy
Layer or Not? lets you discover fragrances, compare their profiles and share experiences. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand visits and website performance. This edition does not sell personal data or display advertising. The service does not require a public profile with your name, but uses technical data and an identifier to manage reviews.

- Provide the functions you request: search, comparison and preferences stored in your browser.
- Publish and manage ratings and comments, allow updates and removal, and calculate community averages.
- Prevent abuse, limit requests and handle reports, corrections and data rights requests.
Providing requested functions and managing your reviews are based on performing the service (GDPR Article 6(1)(b)). Security and moderation rely on the legitimate interest in maintaining a reliable service (Article 6(1)(f)), subject to the controller’s balancing assessment. An applicable legal obligation may provide a basis under Article 6(1)(c). These grounds do not extend to marketing or new purposes.
What is stored and for how long
- Reviews: fragrance pair, stars, an optional comment, date and optional experience details you choose to provide. Reviews stop being visible 365 days after their latest update; expired records are automatically cleaned up during service activity, unless removed earlier.
- Review authorship: an HMAC-signed HttpOnly cookie, lon_author, lasting up to 180 days. It recognises this browser so its reviews can be managed. The identifier is not displayed publicly.
- Security quotas: a daily identifier derived from the IP address using HMAC to limit abuse. Quotas expire after a few minutes and expired records are cleaned up during service activity. This measure does not make all browsing anonymous.
- Reports: the content needed to review the issue and any details you provide expire after 30 days and are deleted by automatic cleanup during service activity. Do not include unnecessary personal data.
Stars and approved comments may be visible to other people. New comments await moderation; submission does not guarantee publication. Do not publish your address, phone number, sensitive information or other people’s personal data.
Visit and performance statistics
Cloudflare Web Analytics collects page-view, traffic-source, country, browser, device-type and loading-time metrics to produce statistics. According to Cloudflare, this measurement uses no cookies or local storage and does not identify people through fingerprinting or cross-site tracking. We do not send your search text or comments as analytics events. Measurement helps us understand and improve the website without creating advertising profiles.

Infrastructure and recipients
The application uses Sites and Cloudflare infrastructure, including a D1 database for shared data. These providers receive technical data needed to deliver and protect the service. We do not claim that all processing or logs remain within the EU. Contracts, subprocessors and transfer safeguards must match the hosting arrangement entered into by the controller.
Backups may retain data during the provider’s recovery window. Removed reviews must not be restored as public content. We do not use this data for advertising or commercial profiling.
Your controls and rights
You may request access, correction, erasure, restriction, objection or portability where applicable. Contact details appear at the end of this page. Requests must allow a proportionate check of your relationship to the data; an identity document is not required by default. You may complain to the Spanish Data Protection Agency.
Review controls let you delete an individual review or all reviews associated with this browser. They require the current authorship cookie. Clearing browser storage or changing domains does not itself delete server-side reviews and may remove your direct control of them. In that case, use the published contact channel.
Terms and reviews
This tool compares documented fragrance profiles. It does not reliably predict smell, enjoyment, skin safety or the outcome of mixing products. Follow each manufacturer’s instructions. Brand and product names identify fragrances and do not imply affiliation, sponsorship or approval by their owners.
The model score and user average are separate measures. Reviews are experiences reported by visitors: we do not verify purchases, personal identity or use on skin. Browser-based limits do not mean one person per vote and cannot eliminate every form of manipulation.
Participation rules
- Publish your own experience relevant to the fragrance pair. Do not invent testing or commercial relationships.
- Do not post other people’s personal data, threats, harassment, unlawful content, impersonation, spam or undisclosed advertising.
- Submit only text you have the right to share. You keep your rights and authorise storage and display to operate the service’s review features until removal under this policy.
New comments are reviewed before display. We may retain, hide or remove them under these rules or an applicable obligation. Moderation should consider context and be proportionate: a negative review alone is not grounds for removal. If you disagree with a decision, use the contact channel and include the content reference and your explanation.
Availability may be affected by maintenance, provider failures or capacity limits. Catalog errors can be corrected using the procedure below. These terms do not exclude your applicable rights or any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Cookies and storage
This edition has no marketing cookies. According to its documentation, Cloudflare Web Analytics measures visits and performance without cookies or local storage to identify visitors. The app’s own storage supports requested functions and security controls. Local preferences and server-side reviews are separate.

Storage is tied to its origin. The local server, a temporary domain and layerornot.com do not automatically share saved combinations, language or review authorship. The public edition does not load fonts from Google Fonts; it uses system fonts.
Visit measurement is separate from your saved combinations and review authorship. We do not use these preferences or identifiers to create advertising profiles.
Sources and method
Edition: full-catalog. Snapshot: 2026-10-25. Catalog entries: 7,278.
The full catalog combines Scento, 10ML and entries from Afnan, Lattafa and Twisted Lily. Sources have different terms: Scento’s CC BY 4.0 licence does not cover other providers’ data or enrichments. Each entry’s references document provenance; they do not certify reuse permission or independent verification.
Attribution: Scento — Scento Perfume Database. Data has been normalised, partially translated and adapted to calculate profiles and model references; these modifications are by Layer or Not?. Concentrations and versions are not merged by assumption.

The score describes relative documentary affinity based on notes, families and stages where enough information is available. It is not a success probability, purchase rating or validated sensory assessment. The reference is calculated for this edition’s catalog; changing the catalog or method can change results.
Illustrations are approximate bottle drawings or interpretations of the olfactory profile, identified accordingly. They are not photographs or a promise to match the real product exactly. Names identify products owned by their respective rights holders without claiming affiliation.
Corrections and removal
If a catalog entry is wrong, include the fragrance, brand, concentration, entry link and a source supporting the correction. We do not copy notes from another concentration to fill missing data.
If you believe a comment breaches the rules or the law, use its report option and identify the content and reason specifically. You may also use the published contact channel. For rights concerning data, text, images or a mark, identify the affected reference and your relationship to the request. Do not send sensitive documents unless we have made a justified request.
Notifications are reviewed in context. An issue may lead to correction, hiding or removal. Where applicable, the decision and opportunity to request a review are explained. Not every report will result in removal.
